Talk about issues surrounding end of life – the biology, the emotions, the impact and more – at a Death Café on Sunday, May 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jesup Memorial Library, 34 Mount Desert St., in a program co-sponsored by the library and the Mount Desert Island Hospital.
Death Café is not a support group. It’s a forum for open discussion relating to issues surrounding life and death with others in a relaxed, open, safe atmosphere. There is no agenda, no objectives or themes.
The program is part of an international effort that began in Europe and made its way to the United States. An Englishman named Jon Underwood began hosting Death Cafes in his basement in September 2011, with subsequent gatherings held in locales as varied as a yurt, actual cafes and the Royal Festival Hall.
Light refreshments including cake will be served. Death Café is open to all; there is no fee to attend.
