Join Mes Amis for a great afternoon of jazz at the next Sundays at the Jesup Winter Concert Series on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Mes Amis play an infectious mix of traditional Gypsy, Latin and American jazz standards along with original compositions. Mes Amis appeals to listeners with their insistent rhythms, bouncing bass lines and sweetly intricate melodies.
At the core of the band is a trio led by guitarist, vocalist and composer Steve Lynnworth, backing him up are Harry Richter on guitar and Wells Gordon on the upright bass. Richter provides “La Pompe,” the steady backbeat typical of the style, while Wells delivers the authoritative thump as he holds down the bottom. They are joined Shane Ellis, a virtuoso clarinet and sax player. Together they have a fantastic time playing together and pushing each other to new heights.
The next concert in the Sundays at the Jesup Winter Concert Series is on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. with the Show Stoppers! and Swallowtail Fiddlers. The Swallowtail Fiddlers, named after the Irish tune “Swallowtail Jig,” are string musicians from the Conners Emerson School in grades 4-8. The Show Stoppers! are a show choir made up of students from the Conners Emerson School and Mount Desert Elementary School, accompanied by an all-student instrumental ensemble. Both groups are under the direction of Music Educator, Rebecca Edmondson. Finally, the last concert in the series is on April 8 at 2 p.m. with pianist Edison Liu.
All concerts are free and open to the public and donations are gratefully accepted.
