MDI Science Café -- An American Lobster in a Changing Ecosystem

Date and Time: 06/22/2015 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

The Gulf of Maine supports some of the most productive lobster habitat on the planet. Just as other fisheries are depleted or in decline, Maine is seeing astonishingly high levels of  lobster abundance, and its coastal communities are now perilously over-dependent on this single fishery. Richard A. Wahle, Ph.D., will explore the current scientific thinking on how we got here, how long it will last, and what will happen if fortunes change for this iconic species.

Wahle is a research professor at the School of Marine Sciences, Darling Marine Center, at the University of Maine. His research integrates the fields of ecology, oceanography, and fishery science toward a better mechanistic understanding of marine populations and communities.
